Alô, pessoas!

Esse é outro trabalho em andamento - É minha contribuição pro calendário desse ano do Bear Nerd (e aqui está o calendário 2011, meu mês foi junho).

O tema desse ano foi "Fim do Mundo", então eu resolvi usar essa ambientação pós-apocalíptica. Fiquei bem satisfeito com o desenho, agora é arregaçar as mangas e colori-lo!

Desde AGOSTO que não tem uma postagem aqui no blog!

Eu nem vou tentar me desculpar. Tem muita coisa que eu não postei aqui no último terço de 2011, mas nem vou tentar postar tudo de uma vez. Até por que, sendo muito honesto, eu produzi muito menos do que deveria no ano passado.

Então, pra começar bem 2012, com essa postagem inaugural, vou manter um ritmo de atualização constante aqui no blog. Mesmo que não seja muito frequente, mas não quero que ele fique mais tão às moscas como estava até agora.

Espero que todos tenham tido uma ótima passagem de ano, e que 2012 traga tudo de bom que 2011 (filho-da-puta!) se recusou a trazer, pra todos nós.

E pra começar, taí um canecão de sorvete, pra começarmos o ano com as taxas de açúcar lá no teto!

Holy cow!

There hasn't been a new post around here since freaking AUGUST!

I won't even try to apologize. There's a lot of stuff I didn't post here on the last quarter of 2011, but I won't even try to do it all at once. Even because, if I'm really honest, I was not as productive as I should've been last year.

So, to start 2012 well, I'll keep a steady stream of posts here. Even if it's not very frequent, I want it to be constant, so the blog won't be abandoned like it was on these last few months.

I hope everyone has had a great turn of the year, and that 2012 will bring everything that 2011 (that bastard!) neglected to bring!

So, to start on the right foot, have big mug full of ice cream - Let's start 2012 with our blood sugar way up high!

Ultimamente, os cadernos têm me ajudado a recuperar minha auto-estima como desenhista. Tem sido muito bom fazer exercício do "Wonder Sketchbook", por que voltei a ter o hábito de desenhar todo dia, nem que seja um rabisquinho qualquer, e me peguei empolgado de novo pra desenhar. Apesar de, nas últimas semanas, ter postado basicamente as minhas Mulheres-Maravilha, tenho desenhado várias outras coisas, algumas bem complexas, e isso tem me feito muito bem. Espero encher VÁRIOS deles nos próximos meses.

Sketchbooks.

Lately, the sketchbooks have helped me regain my self-confidence as an artist. It's been great to do the "Wonder Sketchbook" exercise, because I've recovered the habit of drawing every day, even if it's a little sketch, and that got me excited about drawing again. I've mainly been posting my Wonder Women for the last few weeks, but I've taken on other, more complex drawing projects as well, and that has been very good. I hope to fill up MANY of those little sketchbooks in the months to come.

Alô, pessoas!

Então, dei uma sumida na semana passada, mas as minhas Mulheres-Maravilha continuaram a ser desenhadas. Acompanhe na sequencia, de cima pra baixo: A Mulher-Maravilha no final de "Reino do Amanhã"; a versão "DC 1 Milhão" da personagem; a versão do evento "Amálgama", que apareceu no especial "Bullets & Bracelets"; a versão da mini-série "Cavaleiro das Trevas 2", com fortes tons gregos; a versão de "Superman: A Foice e o Martelo"; a da graphic novel "Amazonia", que mostra ma Mulher-Maravilha na Inglaterra Vitoriana e, por último, a versão de "A Nova Fronteira". Ufa!

Estou revendo a função do Pirâmide, e qual a abordagem que vou dar aos posts daqui. Nesses tempos de Facebook, Tumblr e DeviantArt, me parece que o blog precisa de "algo mais" pra continuar atrativo (tanto pra mim, quanto pra quem visita), então esperem alguma mudança no conteúdo postado aqui nesse espaço.

So I've been away for the last week or so, but my Wonder Women were still getting drawn. From top to bottom: Wonder Woman from the final act of "Kingdom Come"; the "DC 1 Million" version; the Amalgam version, as she appeared on the "Bullets & Bracelets" one-shot; the "Dark Knight Strikes Again" version; the "Superman: Red Son" version; the Victorian Era Wonder Woman, from the graphic novel "Amazonia" and, finally, the one from "DC - The New Frontier". Wheew!

I'm re-thinking the blog's function, and the approach I'll take to my posts here. In these days of Facebook, Tumblr and DeviantArt, it seems to be the blog needs a little extra to stay enticing (both to me and for the readers), so expect some change in content here.

A passagem de Allan Heinberg pelo título da Mulher-Maravilha foi curta, apenas reestabelecendo o novo status da Amazona no Universo DC pós-Crise Infinita. Após sua saída, o título passou por uma série de escritores fill-in até Gail Simone ser nomeada escritora regular do título. Allan Heinberg's run on the Wonder Woman comic was brief, basically to restabilish Wonder Woman' status on the DC Universe after Infinite Crisis. After he left, the book went through a string of fill-in writers until Gail Simone came on-board as the regular writer. One of her first arcs was "Ends of the Earth", where she teamed-up with Beowulf, and this was one of the outfits she wears in that story.

No Wonder Sketchbook de hoje - Logo após o arco do Walt Simonson, Greg Rucka assumiu o título da Mulher-Maravilha, numa das melhores fases da personagem.
Ela usou o uniforme básico durante a fase, e essa armadura durante a luta climática contra a Medusa. Em decorrência dessa luta, Diana ficou cega por vários meses, usando uma venda vermelha para cobrir os olhos.

Today, on Wonder Sketchbook - Right after Simonson's arc, Greg Rucka took over Wonder Woman's book, in which was one of the best periods of the character.
For most of this run, she was wearing her basic uniform, and donned this armor in the climatic fight against Medousa. As a result of the injuries she sustained in that fight, she was blinded for a while, wearing a red blindfold over her eyes.

Então, logo depois da fase de John Byrne no título, a Mulher-Maravilha passou um período longo de tapa-buracos e pequenas fases até Phil Jimenez assumir o título em 2001.

A fase dele durou cerca de três anos, e o visual dela não tinha muita diferença do padrão da personagem, a não ser pelo período em que ela parou de usar a tiara, em consequencia da abolição da monarquia em Themyscira (a tiara era como uma coroa real). Logo após a fase de Jimenez, Walt Simonson assumiu o título como escritor por um arco de seis histórias, com arte de Jerry Ordway, e a principal diferença na aparência da personagem era o cabelo curto.

E esse foi o "Wonder Sketchbook" de hoje.

So, after John Byrne's run on her book, Wonder Woman spent a long period of short runs and fill-in issues until Phil Jimenez got on the book in 2001.

His run lasted for about three years, and visually there wasn't much difference from the standard Wonder Woman look, except from the period where she didn't wear her tiara, due to the abolishment of the monarchy in Themyscira (her tiara being akin to a royal crown). Right after Jimenez' run, Walt Simonson took over the book as a writer for a short 6-issues run, with Jerry Ordway on the art, and the main difference on her looks was the short hair.

And that's today "Wonder Sketchbook".

The Rock of Ages

Então, no "Wonder Sketchbook" de hoje, "A Pedra da Eternidade".

Enquanto no seu próprio título, a Mulher-Maravilha estava morta/morando no Olimpo, Grant Morrison apresentava, no gibi da Liga da Justiça, o arco "A Pedra da Eternidade".

Parte da história se passava num futuro onde Darkseid dominava a Terra, e a Mulher-Maravilha fazia parte da resistência dos heróis contra o vilão. E esse era o visual fodão que ela usava.

So, today on "Wonder Sketchbook", we have "The Rock of Ages".

While, in her own book, Wonder Woman was dead/living on Olympus, Grant Morrison was writing, on the JLA book, the "Rock of Ages" story arc.

Part of the story took place in a future where Darkseid took over the world, and Wonder Woman was part of the hero resistance. This was the bad-ass look she sported.

Então que eu fui ao casamento de um amigo ontem, e foi ótimo.

Meu amigo estava feliz, a noiva (agora esposa) estava LINDA, o lugar era imensamente agradável, a comida estava sensacional.

E eu me joguei na pista de dança como se o aluguel fosse vencer amanhã! Faz SÉCULOS desde que eu dancei em uma festa pela última vez, e eu segui o velho conselho de dançar como se ninguém estivesse olhando, e foi MASSA!

Até o noivo virar pra mim e dizer "Caraca, James, tu tá manguaçado, hein?!", e eu não sabia se batia nele ou abraçava o cara, por que é de conhecimento geral entre os meus amigos que eu não bebo álcool...rs

So I went to a friend’s wedding yesterday and it was lovely.

My friend was happy, his bride (now wife) was BEAUTIFUL, the venue was immensely pleasant, the food was awesome.

And I got down on the dancefloor like a f*** bad-ass m**f** ON FIRE. It’s been AGES since I got to dance at a party, and I followed that old advice and danced like nobody was watching, and it felt great.

Until the groom came up to me and said “Man, you’re SO drunk, right?!”, and I didn’t know whether to punch him in the face or hug him, cause it’s a well known fact among my friends that I don’t drink alcohol.

Esse aqui é mais um desenho feito pra newsletter aqui do trabalho, o tema eram as férias de julho, e como os pais aproveitam pra passar mais tempo com os flhos nesse período. Houve comentários sobre como a mãe do desenho está calma DEMAIS com essa zona toda ao redor dela, mas na minha imaginação ela tá chapada de calmantes...rs

his is another drawing made for the newsletter at work, and the subject was July's school vacations, and how parents spend he extra time with their children during that time. There were comments about how the mom in he picture looks way too calm with all those children around her, but in my mind what she is is doped up on tranquilizers...lol

So we finally get to the last drawing of a Pérez-era Wonder Woman on my "Wonder Sketchbook". This is the battle armor she used during the "Challenge of the Gods" story arc, and that would be seen a couple more time during Pérez's run on the character.

Hoje, no "Wonder Sketchbook", temos mais um par de versões da era Pérez - Um é o traje informal da princesa, que ele desenhava quando a personagem estava na Ilha Paraíso, e o outro é o traje que apareceu pela primeira vez na capa de Wonder Woman #50, e que seria usado mais tarde, na fase Phil Jimenez, como o traje oficial de embaixadora da Mulher-Maravilha.

So today, in “Wonder Sketchbook”, we have another couple of versions from the Perez era - One is a revisiting of the original Wonder-Girl outfit, that he drew on the character when she was on Paradise Island, and the other is a gown that he drew on the cover of Wonder Woman #50, and that later Phil Jimenez would use on his run as her “ambassador suit”.

No "Wonder Sketchbook" de hoje, continuamos nosso passeio pela Mulher-Maravilha da era George Pérez.

Uma das coisas que eu mais gostei na sua interpretação da personagem foi que ela ficou significativamente mais jovem que a sua encarnação pré-Crise. A primeira edição edição segue toda a história das Amazonas até o nascimento da princesa, e ela só aparece como Mulher-Maravilha na última página.

À esquerda, está Diana como a princesa de Themyscira, e à direita estáaarmadura que ela usa para participar do torneio que selecionará a mulher que representará as Amazonas no Mundo do Patriarcado.

Today in "Wonder Sketchbook", we continue our stroll through Perez-era Wonder Woman.

One of the things he did to the character that appealed to me was that he made her really younger than her pre-Crisis counterpart. The first issue follows the whole story of the Amazons until the birth of the princess, and she only appears as Wonder Woman on the very last page.

On the left, there's Diana as the princess of Themyscira, and on the right there's the armor she wears to take part in the contest to choose which woman will be selected to be the Amazon's envoy to Man's World.

E agora, o "Wonder Sketchbook" chega à minha encarnação FAVORITA da Mulher-Maravilha, a versão idealizada por George Pérez em 1987, quando ele assumiu as rédeas da personagem no reboot após "Crise nas Infinitas Terras". Nos últimos anos, eu aprendi a apreciar bastante as versões pré-Crise da personagem, mas essa aqui ainda é a Mulher-Maravilha DEFINITIVA pra mim.

Visualmente, ela mudou pouco - O cabelo, as botas (que não tinham mais saltos altos) e o emblema no peito que tinha um aspecto mais metálico.

Me perdoem, mas vou me deter um pouco nessa era da personagem nos próximos desenhos...rs

So now, on "Wonder Sketchbook", we've arrived at my FAVOURITE incarnation of the character, Wonder Woman as imagined by George Pérez when he took over the character in 1987, rebooting her after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Over the years, I've learned to appreciate a lot of the pre-Crisis versions, but this one is still the DEFINITIVE version of Diana for me.

Visually, the design of the character remained very similar to the Gene Colan version, with a few exceptions- Her hair style, the boots (no longer high-heeled) and the breast-plate, now with a more metallic look.

I'll dwell a bit more on this era of the character on the next posts, so bear with me a little. ;)

Então, que no "Wonder Sketchbook" de hoje, chegamos à versão que estreou em Wonder Woman #288, em 1982, desenhada por Gene Colan. A grande mudança aqui foi no emblema do peito, onde a tradicional águia foi estilizada para formar o logo que conhecemos e que a personagem usou até bem recentemente.

So now, on the "Wonder Sketchbook", we get to the version that debuted in Wonder Woman #288, in 1982, as drawn by Gene Colan. The big change here was her chest piece, where the traditional eagle was stylized into the logo she sported until very recently.

Então, pro "Wonder Sketchbook de hoje, a Mulher-Maravilha dos anos 70. Ela passou a ter esse visual logo depois da fase "I-Ching", é foi a aparência que a levou a uma fase mais moderna, tendo sido a base pro visual dela tanto no desenho dos Super-Amigos, quanto da série live-action com a Lynda Carter.

Eu fiz o desenho à esquerda, mas não gostei muito do resultado, e depois de algumas conversas com alguns amigos, resolvi recomeçar do zero. Ainda assim, não quis jogar o desenho fora, então aí estão os dois.

So, for today’s “Wonder Sketchbook”, 70’s Wonder Woman - She wore this costume after the “I-Ching” phase, and this is the look that ushered her into a more modern setting. It would be the template for the way she looked both on the Superfriends cartoon and the live-action series with Lynda Carter.

I did the drawing on the left, but was not happy with the result, even after coloring. So I went and started again from scratch, but couldn’t bring myself to get rid of the first one, so here are them both.

So, to start the week off, another drawing made for work. The theme was "winter", and how this season means different things in different parts of Brazil - A huge country where, depending on where you live, you'll get freezing cold, hail and snow, or suffocating heat with temperatures over 40ºC (that's 104 ºF) and barely any moisture in the air. I suppose it's the same in similarly big countries like the U.S.

So ByM was in Brasília last month, and among other things, the Fulerarte gang (ByM, Lima, Rafa and myself) got together to produce a jam-piece, which had the theme "Mash-Up Super-Heroes". Uma pena, por que foi uma das ilustrações pro trabalho que eu mais me diverti fazendo, e foi toda feita na tablet, coisa que eu evito pra desenhos mais elaborados.

So, guys, to close the week off, an illustration study I did or a job here at work, that ended up bing rejected by TPTB. Unfortunate, cause I really liked it, had a lot of fun doing it, and did it entirely using the Wacom, which is something I avoind doing with more elaborate drawings.

A musa da Poesia Lírica, Euterpe, carrega uma flauta, não um pergaminho. Esse é o atributo de Clio, musa da História. Mas, apesar dessa derrapada, gostei do desenho!

This is my second sketch for Fulerarte, and this week's theme was "mythological creatures". That's a faun and a muse up there. However, I screwed up on the muse. Euterpe, the muse of Lyrical Poetry, carries a flute, not a scroll. That's the attribute of Clio, the History muse. Despite the screw-up, I rather liked how this turned out!

Hey, there everyone!

So I'm back, and this is a piece of art I should have posted a couple of months ago. I did this for the 2011 Bear Nerd Calendar, for my friend ByM's website, Bear Nerd. Check it out, it's a cool blend of bear and nerd culture.

I LOVED working on this project, and the final resulta was awesome. My month was June (which, here in Brazil, is the month of Valentine's Day), and the drawing may or may not have been inspired by actual events (hint: it totally was). ;)

Jam Session Brasília

Então que, no fim de dezembro passado, rolou, na Kingdom Comics, a Jam Session de HQ em Brasília.

O evento fazia parte da produção da história "O Crime do Teishouko Preto", que rolou no Brasil inteiro. A idéia era que cada desenhista fizesse uma página da história, aproveitando o gancho deixado pelo desenhista anterior, e deixando o gancho para o próximo desenhista fazer sua página, tipo um "exquisite corpse".

A idéia é que a coisa vire um livro (já tem quase 400 páginas), e vários nomes de peso do quadrinho nacional participaram - Laerte Coutinho, Gabriel Bá, Fábio Moon, Rafael Albuquerque, só pra citar alguns. No mínimo, vai ser bacana ter uma página no meio de tantos pesos pesados. A minha, aliás, está aí em cima! ;)

So, guys, last December the Comics Drawing Jam happened here in Brasília, hosted at Kingdom Comics.

The event was part of the production of the "O Crime do Teishouko Preto" comic book, which happened all over the country. The idea was that each artist would write and draw a page of the story, using the previous page as a jumping on point, and leaving a cliffhanger for the next artist in line, kinda like an "exquisite corpse" of sorts.

The plan is for the story (which is almost 400 pages now) to be collected into a book eventually, and some pretty heavy hitters of Brazilian comics have participated - Laerte Coutinho, Gabriel Bá, Fábio Moon and Rafael Albuquerque, to name a few. At the very least, when all is said and done, it will be REALLY cool to have a page (the one opening this post, btw) among the work of those guys!

Esse aí em cima é meu novo amigo, o sketchbook!
Tenho outros em casa, mas esse daí foi feito manualmente, sob encomenda, pelas meninas do Petit Poá, é é PERFEITO (e não, esse post não é jabá! Hmpf). Por que a encadernação é toda costurada, e as folhas são de alta gramatura, dá pra abri-lo consideravelmente sem se preocupar em soltar folhas ou danificar a encadernação. É ideal pra desenhar na rua, e é isso que eu tenho feito. Comecei a usá-lo na semana do natal do ano passado, nas intermináveis esperas em sala de embarque dos aeroportos de Brasília e Guarulhos. E está sendo bacana caregá-lo de um lado pro outro, então aguardem vários "despejos de esboços" por aqui. ;)

Up ther is my new best friend, the sketchbook!
I have other models at home, but that buddy up there was custom-made, hand-sewn by the ladies at the Petit Poá blog. It's perfect for drawing outdoors, because of its sewn biding, which allows it to be considerably opened without damaging the spine or losing pages. Also, the paperstock is really sturdy, so it can handle theheavy usage. I started drawing on itat the end of last year, during the endless delays of flights at Brasília's and Guarulhos' airports. Expect lots of sketch dumping this year. ;)

Hey, guys! So, this is the first post of the year, and I start by posting the last pictures done in 2010 for the newsletter at work. Obviously, all of them deal with the holidays and vacations (for you guys on the northern hemisphere, we've got summer starting now, so many people take their vacations and head to the beaches of the country). All of them real quick jobs, done on the Wacom.

I still didn't get round to working subtitles into my videos or (dread) making a video spoken in English, but this one has got a lot of images from the book, and they're SO. PRETTY. This is another one for work. It was done to illustrate a newsletter about the over-4-months-long period of drought we've been going through here at my city. Apparently, the weather is beginning to change now, but man, it has been a really rough period without any hint of rain, a hellish heat and air that is ridiculously devoid of humidity. Also dust. De uns tempos pra cá, tenho me viciado em tirar fotografias com meu celular. A câmera dele é bem fraquinha, mas me permite capturar momentos curiosos, ou locações interessantes na hora. O que acabou por me ajudar a montar um pequeno (mas crescente) arquivo de referências, especialmente de espaços e cenários. Foi tirado na sala de embarque do Aeroporto Internacional Juscelino Kubitschek em Brasília.

I've become kinda addicted to taking pictures with my cel phone, recently. It's a crappy camera, but it allows me to capture curious moments or interesting locations on the spot. Thus, I've been accumulating a small (but growing) reference archive. This here sketch was done based on a photograph I took last 4th, at the boarding room ar Brasilía's Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport, when I was waiting for my flight to visit the Hubby in São Paulo.

Então, pessoas, depois de um feriadão passado em companhia do Maridão, dormindo até MUITO tarde, com o barulho da chuva batendo na janela (e direito ao melhor hamburger que já comi na vida), estou de volta. Desenhos novos virão logo!

Pra esquentar os tamborins, essa foto que tirei outro dia na hora do almoço aqui no trabalho. Ese é meu amigo Ricardo, e a foto foi tirada num restaurante onde costumamos almoçar.

So, guys, after a long holiday, spent with the Husband at his home city, where we slept until REALLY late hours, with the oh-so-soothing sound of rain falling outside, and the best burger I ever ate EVER EVAH, I'm back. New drawings soon to come!

Just to get things rolling again, here's a picture I took the other day at lunch here at work. That is my friend Ricardo on the picture, and it was taken at a estaurant nearby where we use to eat.

Deu um trabalho desgraçado, por que eu tava enferrujado pra caramba (demorou mais de um ano até voltar pra elas), mas porra, como eu tô feliz com o resultado!

E devo mencionar a ajuda INESTIMÁVEL do ByM e do Lima - Adoro esses caras!

So I FINALLY finished coloring my Wonder Girls!
It was a shitload of work, cause I was WAY too rusty (it's been over a YEAR since I last worked on this particular picture) but, damn, I'm SO happy with the final results!

I should mention the PRICELESS help and encouragement from ByM and Lima - I love those guys!

Mais um desenho feito pra newsletter no trabalho. O texto fala sobre coleções e colecionadores, e me diverti HORRORES desenhando a capa de Batman #1. Como dise um amigo, é provável que 90% das pessoas que recebem a newsletter não pesque a referência, mas tenho certeza que os 10% que pescaram devem ter gostado.

Meio relacionado - Estou ficando mais confortável com a tablet. Esses desenhos mais rápidos, com prazos curtos e dimensões pequenas, tem sido imensamente mais tranquilos (e prazerosos) de fazer usando a tablet, ao invés de desenhar no papel, escanear e trabalhar a imagem no Photoshop. Só comentando.

Another one done for a newsletter at work. This illustrated a text about collections and collectors, and I had a LOT of fun drawing the cover for Batman #1 up there. As a friend said, it's quite possible that 90% of the people who got the newsletter didn't get the reference. But I'm sure it amused the 10% that did.

Somewhat related - I'm getting more confortable using the Wacom tablet. This kind of quick drawing (short deadlines, small dimensions) is way more fun to do using the tablet than the conventional pencil-scan-Photoshop method. Just sayin'.

Então que rolou uma limpeza de alguns armários aqui no trabalho, e no meio de muita velharia que foi pro lixo, apareceu o utensílio aí na foto. Alguém se lembra dele, o velho disquete de 5 e 1/4?? Muitos anos atrás, quando eu começava a aprender a mexer com computadores (acho que o pessoal da minha idade é a última geração a não crescer com computadores desde bem moleque), usávamos bastante, pra armazenar exercícios intermináveis de digitação e linhas de comando. Hoje, o timer do microondas lá de casa tem muito mais capacidade de memória que um disquinho desses, e o meu celular (que é bem meia-boca, diga-s de passagem) é mais poderoso que todos os computadores da minha turma de "Introdução à Microinformática" na faculdade, operando juntos...rs

Isso, conjugado ao cabelo que arranquei da sobrancelha hoje cedo que era mais comprido que uma antena, me leva a inevitável conclusão de que preciso começar a mentir a idade...rs

So there was a cleaning spree here at work the other day, and some closets were open that have been closed for a looooong time. Amidst the tons of old stuff that were thrown out, that little gadget in the picture appeared. Does anyone even remember the old 5 1/4 floppy discs?? I remember many years ago, when I was starting to learn how to operate computers (I believe people my age may be the last generation to not grow up from childhood using computers), we used those discs a lot. Typing and command lines exercises, loads of them. These days, the microwave's timer at my house must have more memory storage capacity, and my crappy cell-phone is more powerful than all the computers at my old "Introduction to Microcomputers" class operating in tamdem.

That, coupled with the eyebrow hair I pulled off earlier today (it was so long it might as well have been an antenna) leads me to the inescapable conslusion that I have to start lying about my age...

So, another colaborative post. This time, my partner-in-crime is my dear niece - Yeah, I'm totally taking charge of grooming the next generation of nerds in my family and, at age 6, she's totally getting into it!

She's a total Wonder Woman fan, LOVES to play with my JLU action figures and, very soon, will be reading comics.

Still under the Jack Kirby vibe, I drew this picture and she coloured it - Up until she got bored, obviously. Below, a photograph of the perpetrators!

Então que o ByM tinha me pedido pra fazer uma versão "ursina" do Capitão Marvel (não sei porque, ele é um puta artista). Conversamos um pouco a respeito pelo MSN, trocamos umas idéias e, ontem, mandei pra ele a arte em preto-e-branco que vocês vêem ali em cima (curiosmente, o Capitão ficou parecendo um certo Peixe...rs). Daí duas horas depois ele me manda a versão colorida, que melhorou INCALCULAVELMENTE a qualidade do meu desenho! Fiquei MUITO de cara, de verdade. Já estamos pensando numa continuação, tipo um Adão Negro Leather (valeu, Leo). Promete!

So my friend ByM had asked me to draw a bear version of Captain Marvel (why in the world would he want me to draw it is uncertain, as he is a fantastic artist himself). So we traded some ideas over MSN and, yesterday, I sent him the line art you see above (in which the Captain looks curiously like a certain Hubby...). A couple of hours later, he sends me a colored version of the picture, which blew my socks away. It enhanced the original drawing EXPONENTIALLY! We're already thinking about a follow-up, maybe a Leather Daddy Black Adam (thanks, Leo!). Sounds promising.

Alô, pessoas!

Então, tem esse blog muito bacana que eu acompanho, que é o DC Women Kicking Ass. Basicamente, ele é dedicado a mostrar imagens positivas de heroínas da DC (e ocasionalmente da Marvel), e comentar sobre a representação das mulheres nos quadrinhos americanos. Tem muita, mas MUITA coisa bacana. E a proposta do blog é algo que eu completamente apóio, logo virei fã na hora. E então que eu, dando uma fuçada nos arquivos do blog, tive a idéia de mandar alguma arte minha pra lá, e não é que a(o) dona(o) do blog gostou?? :D

Enquanto isso, paralelamente, meu desenho dos heróis gays também foi postado lá no Comic Book Resources, no post da Reader Art Gallery!

Hey, people!

So, there is this really cool blog I follow, DC Women Kicking Ass. In a nutshell, it's dedicated to positive images of women in DC Comics (and occasionally Marvel), and commentary about the representation of women in U.S. super-heroes comics. There's loads, I mean LOADS of cool stuff posted there, many, many pieces of awesome art. I've been a follower from the day I discovered the blog, as I completely agree with its purpose. And so, as I was browsing the archives the other day, it coccured to me that I have some art that the blog owner might like and find appropriate for the blog, so I sent them an e-mail, and what do you know, the blog owner did like my art! :D

Meanwhile, my Gay Heroes drawing was featured at the Reader Art Gallery post over at Comic Book Resources!

I'm very happy about being featured in those posts, even more so because this has been such a busy week and I did not post a single drawing here on the blog.

Dessa vez, o livro que escolhi pro vídeo foi o "Cover Run - The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes", que é FODASTYKO. Sério, qualquer um que desenha vai PIRAR com o livro, altamente recomendado!

So, guys, this is the second "Tour Book" video, from the amazing James+Lima duo (with some unexpected and much, much welcome assistance from our friend Glaidson), this time reviewing DC's "Cover Run - The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes".

Sorry for the lack of a version in English, but I really prefer to spare you the horror of my spoken English! Anyway, I highly recommend the book, ESPECIALLY if you like to draw, or have a particular interest in comic book art.

So, guys, this is a "teaser" of a project I've been working on with my friend Fabrício (former owner of the Anubis statue from last post). We're aiming for it to be finished by the end of the year and, if everything goes according to plan, it will result in a children's book. Fingers crossed!
