Aaaaaaaaaaaand...I'm back. Again.

Uau, não temos um update neste blog desde SETEMBRO de 2012! Negligência, a gente vê por aqui!
Meu amigo blogueiro Dr. Spo postou um comentário pedindo updates, e isso meio que me alertou pro deplorável estado de abandono do Pirâmide.

Eu tenho postado, volta e meia, coisas no meu Tumblr (acho a plataforma deles mais amigável que a do blogger), mas não quero desativar meu espaço aqui. Então, vamos respirar fundo e tentar mais uma vez, com sentimento! ;)

Esse esboço, feito inteiramente no Photoshop, foi feito como um exercício pra soltar a imaginação. Estou (finalmente, depois de ANOS com as idéias presas na cabeça) escrevendo uma graphic novel. Não sei como nem quando vou publicar, mas é uma coisa que eu quero fazer. E estou fazendo. Essa menininha amazona aí é parte do processo de "entrar no clima" que eu quero pra essa história.

E é isso, pessoas - Vou tentar manter o blog ativo e postar o mais regularmente possível!

Wow, there hasn't been an update here since last SEPTEMBER!! Neglectful, moi? Preposterous!

My blogger friend Doc Spo has posted a comment asking about updates, and that kinda shocked me into noticing the deplorable state of abandon Piramide has been in.

I have been posting occasionaly on my Tumblr (which has an interface friendlier than blogger, IMHO), but I don't want to simply shut my blog down. So, let's take a deep breath and try it once more, with feeling. ;)

This little sketch, done entirely in Photoshop, was an exercise to jiggle my imagination a little. I'm writing a graphic novel (after YEARS of having somei deas bouncing around in my head, without an outlet), and this little amazon girl up there is a way to let me into the "visual mood" for it. I don't know when, or how, I'm going to publish, but that's something I really want to do.

And that's it for now, folks - I'll try to keep the blog active and post regularly!

Alô, pessoas que AINDA passam por aqui de vez em quando, olha eu de volta!
Devo confessar que, nos meses emque estive longe do Pirâmide, fiquei pensando seriamente em o que fazer com o blog. O Facebook e o Tumblr tem se mostrado plataformas mais ágeis que o blogspot, e mesmo o DeviantArt tem me parecido muito pesadão.

Além disso, tenho me envolvido como nunca com o Bear Nerd (não conhecem? Então CORRAM pra dar uma olhada, o site tá sensacional!), então a atenção pro meu bloguinho aqui REALMENTE minguou. Estou decidindo se faço mais um esforço pra continuar com ele do jeito que foi concebido, ou se mudo ofoco dele pra algo mais focado em textos, ou se encerro...

Enfim, enquanto não resolvo esses dilemas metafísicos, aqui um novo desenho...rs

Essa é a Mulher-Maravilha no design que Cliff Chiang criou para a personagem após o recente reboot do Universo DC. Adorei o visual, e fiz minha versão "kids"!

Hello, people who STILL take a look around here to see if I come back (Doc?).
I must confess that, during these months I've been away, I've done some serious thinking about this here bloggy thing. Facebook and Tumblr have been proving to be much faster and more agile than blogspot, and even DeviantArt seems cluncky and heavy.

Plus I've been really involved with Bear Nerd, so the attention I've dedicated to my little blog has been virtually nonexistent. I'm still on the fence about how to handle it, to be honest.

Anyway, while I work out these questions of the soul, here's a new drawing...lol
This is the version of Wonder Woman designed by artist Cliff Chiang, for the post-Flashpoint, "new 52" reboot at DC. Iabsolutely love it, so here's mytake on it!

Então, que eu tô apanhando do Illustrator no meu projeto novo, e pra desestressar, resolvi colorir essa Illyana, lá do meu desenho X-Men Arcana. Gostei bastante do resultado!

I hit a mental block trying to draw in Illustrator, so I took a break from my current drawing project, and decided instead to color Illyana from my X-Men Arcana drawing, just for fun. This is what I came up with.

So I FINALLY finished this drawing. If I do say so myself, it came out pretty good. And, wow, this would be a pretty powerful team, wouldn’t it?

Wonder Sketchbook, v 2.0 - 1941

Então que eu resolvi mudar a abordagem nos desenhos do Wonder Sketchbook. Vou gastar mais um tempinho em cada desenho, experimentar um pouquinho com a cor, ver no que dá.

E vou recomeçar lá no comecinho, na Mulher-Maravilha de 1941, com a aparência de quando ela foi publicada pela primeira vez.

So I’m trying a new approach to my “Wonder Sketchbook” drawings. I’ll spend more time on the art, experiment a bit with the coloring, see what happens.

And I’m starting again at the very beginning, with Wonder Woman as she looked when she first appeared in 1941.

This is how she was envisioned by her creator, William Moulton Marston.

Até agora (e isso é sem contar os quadrinhos), tem alguns livros do Discworld do Terry Pratchett, "On Writing" do Stephen King, dois compêndios do Douglas Adams (Mochileiro e Dirk Gently), "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, do William Shirer (que eu tô com MEDO de começar, tem mais de mil páginas!), "Bilhões e Bilhões" do Carl Sagan, "O Maior Espetáculo da Terra", do Richard Dawkins (outro catatau que eu tô com medo de começar...rs) e "As Esganadas", do Jô Soares.

So a friend on Facebook posted about the books he has on his “to read” pile, and it got me thinking about the ones I’ve got on queue.

So far (and that’s not counting comics), I have a few of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, Stephen King’s “On Writing”, a couple of Douglas Adam’s compendia (The Hitchhiker’s Guide and the Dirk Gently Omnibus), William Shirer’s “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” (I’m dreading this one, it’s over a thousand pages long!), Carl Sagan’s “Billions and Billions” (Brazilian edition), Richard Dawkins’ “The Greatest Show on Earth” (another massive one I’m dreading to start) and Jô Soares’ “As Esganadas” (this is a Brazilian author, renoed for his comedic skills on his books and TV show).

I don’t even know where to start!

Esse é outro trabalho em andamento - É minha contribuição pro calendário desse ano do Bear Nerd (e aqui está o calendário 2011, meu mês foi junho).

O tema desse ano foi "Fim do Mundo", então eu resolvi usar essa ambientação pós-apocalíptica. Fiquei bem satisfeito com o desenho, agora é arregaçar as mangas e colori-lo!

To start the week off, a little drawing I id a few weeks ago of my favourite Batgirl, Cassandra Cain, and the X-Men's X-23. It was meant to be just  warm-up sketch, but I liked it enough to finish up. A crossover between the two of them would kick ass!

Desde AGOSTO que não tem uma postagem aqui no blog!

Eu nem vou tentar me desculpar. Tem muita coisa que eu não postei aqui no último terço de 2011, mas nem vou tentar postar tudo de uma vez. Até por que, sendo muito honesto, eu produzi muito menos do que deveria no ano passado.

Então, pra começar bem 2012, com essa postagem inaugural, vou manter um ritmo de atualização constante aqui no blog. Mesmo que não seja muito frequente, mas não quero que ele fique mais tão às moscas como estava até agora.

Espero que todos tenham tido uma ótima passagem de ano, e que 2012 traga tudo de bom que 2011 (filho-da-puta!) se recusou a trazer, pra todos nós.

E pra começar, taí um canecão de sorvete, pra começarmos o ano com as taxas de açúcar lá no teto!

Holy cow!

There hasn't been a new post around here since freaking AUGUST!

I won't even try to apologize. There's a lot of stuff  I didn't post here on the last quarter of 2011, but I won't even try to do it all at once. Even because, if I'm really honest, I was not as productive as I should've been last year.

So, to start 2012 well, I'll keep a steady stream of posts here. Even if it's not very frequent, I want it to be constant, so the blog won't be abandoned like it was on these last few months.

I hope everyone has had a great turn of the year, and that 2012 will bring everything that 2011 (that bastard!) neglected to bring!

So, to start on the right foot, have  big mug full of ice cream - Let's start 2012 with our blood sugar way up high!

Ultimamente, os cadernos têm me ajudado a recuperar minha auto-estima como desenhista. Tem sido muito bom fazer  exercício do "Wonder Sketchbook", por que voltei a ter o hábito de desenhar todo dia, nem que seja um rabisquinho qualquer, e me peguei empolgado de novo pra desenhar. Apesar de, nas últimas semanas, ter postado basicamente as minhas Mulheres-Maravilha, tenho desenhado várias outras coisas, algumas bem complexas, e isso tem me feito muito bem. Espero encher VÁRIOS deles nos próximos meses.

Sketchbooks.

Lately, the sketchbooks have helped me regain my self-confidence as an artist. It's been great to do the "Wonder Sketchbook" exercise, because I've recovered the habit of drawing every day, even if it's a little sketch, and that got me excited about drawing again. I've mainly been posting my Wonder Women for the last few weeks, but I've taken on other, more complex drawing projects as well, and that has been very good. I hope to fill up MANY of those little sketchbooks in the months to come.

Alô, pessoas!

Então, dei uma sumida na semana passada, mas as minhas Mulheres-Maravilha continuaram a ser desenhadas. Acompanhe na sequencia, de cima pra baixo: A Mulher-Maravilha no final de "Reino do Amanhã"; a versão "DC 1 Milhão" da personagem; a versão do evento "Amálgama", que apareceu no especial "Bullets & Bracelets"; a versão da mini-série "Cavaleiro das Trevas 2", com fortes tons gregos; a versão de "Superman: A Foice e o Martelo"; a da graphic novel "Amazonia", que mostra ma Mulher-Maravilha na Inglaterra Vitoriana e, por último, a versão de "A Nova Fronteira". Ufa!

Estou revendo a função do Pirâmide, e qual a abordagem que vou dar aos posts daqui. Nesses tempos de Facebook, Tumblr e DeviantArt, me parece que o blog precisa de "algo mais" pra continuar atrativo (tanto pra mim, quanto pra quem visita), então esperem alguma mudança no conteúdo postado aqui nesse espaço.

So I've been away for the last week or so, but my Wonder Women were still getting drawn. From top to bottom: Wonder Woman from the final act of "Kingdom Come"; the "DC 1 Million" version; the Amalgam version, as she appeared on the "Bullets & Bracelets" one-shot; the "Dark Knight Strikes Again" version; the "Superman: Red Son" version; the Victorian Era Wonder Woman, from the graphic novel "Amazonia" and, finally, the one from "DC - The New Frontier". Wheew!

I'm re-thinking the blog's function, and the approach I'll take to my posts here. In these days of Facebook, Tumblr and DeviantArt, it seems to be the blog needs a little extra to stay enticing (both to me and for the readers), so expect some change in content here.

Today, we continue the visit to the Kingdom Come reality - This is Wonder Woman's battle armor, that she uses in the last act of that series. It was so well received that it became a part of the character's regular continuity, making appearances on Phil Jimenez' and Gail Simone's runs.

So today we begin to sail through the waters/crawl through the mud of the "Elseworlds" versions of Wonder Woman. To start, one of my favorite alternate incarnations of the character, as she appears in the mega-hit "Kingdom Come", designed by Alex Ross.

So, guys, finally, for today, we have the new version of Wonder-Woman in the post-Flashpoint DC Universe. For now, it's APPARENTLY the final look, but until the re-launch in Semptember, there's still room for doubt.

And we finally get to the current version of Wonder Woman, post-Blackest Night - A younger Diana, with a (supposedly) more modern look (except it was already dated in the 90's) in the "Odyssey" story arc.

So, continuing the "Wonder Sketchbook", we have this beauty up there. In 2008, during Final Crisis, Wonder Woman spend a little while possessed by the anti-life equation, acting as one of the Female Furies.


This was how she looked as captain of Darkseid’s elite guard.

On today's Wonder Sketchbook, the other two outfits that Wonder Woman wears in "Ends of the Earth". There's a "Red Sonja meets Pirates of the Caribbean" vibe, and don't even ask about the red claw hand...lol

A passagem de Allan Heinberg pelo título da Mulher-Maravilha foi curta, apenas reestabelecendo o novo status da Amazona no Universo DC pós-Crise Infinita. Após sua saída, o título passou por uma série de escritores fill-in até Gail Simone ser nomeada escritora regular do título. Um de seus primeiros arcos, "Ends of the Earth" traz a amazona se aliando a Beowulf, e esse é um dos trajes que ele usa durante o arco.

Allan Heinberg's run on the Wonder Woman comic was brief, basically to restabilish Wonder Woman' status on the DC Universe after Infinite Crisis. After he left, the book went through a string of fill-in writers until Gail Simone came on-board as the regular writer. One of her first arcs was "Ends of the Earth", where she teamed-up with Beowulf, and this was one of the outfits she wears in that story.

So, on today's Wonder Sketchbook - After Infinite Crisis, Wonder Woman's book, which had been cancelled at the end of Greg Rucka's run, was restarted, kicking off the third volume of the series. On creative duties, Allan Heinberg and Terry Dodson, who made a few minor alterations to the character's uniform.

Hoje, no Wonder Sketchbook - No mesmo ano em que Crise Infinita foi publicada (2005), Brian Azzarello e Jim Lee comandavam o título do Superman, no arco "For Tomorrow", que contava com a participação da Mulher-Maravilha em algumas edições. Esse é o visual dela naquela história, desenhada por Jim Lee.

Today, in Wonder Sketchbook - In the same year that Infinite Crisis was published (2005), Brian Azzarello and Jim Lee were in charge of the Superman book, in the "For Tomorrow" arc, which featured Wonder Woman in a couple of issues. This was the looks she sported, as drawn by Jim Lee.

Então que a fase de Greg Rucka no título da Mulher-Maravilha terminou por conta do crossover "Crise Infinita", num dos maiores equívocos já feitos com a personagem.

Wonder Woman - Eyes of the Gorgon

No Wonder Sketchbook de hoje - Logo após o arco do Walt Simonson, Greg Rucka assumiu o título da Mulher-Maravilha, numa das melhores fases da personagem.
Ela usou o uniforme básico durante a fase, e essa armadura durante a luta climática contra a Medusa. Em decorrência dessa luta, Diana ficou cega por vários meses, usando uma venda vermelha para cobrir os olhos.

Today, on Wonder Sketchbook - Right after Simonson's arc, Greg Rucka took over Wonder Woman's book, in which was one of the best periods of the character.
For most of this run, she was wearing her basic uniform, and donned this armor in the climatic fight against Medousa. As a result of the injuries she sustained in that fight, she was blinded for a while, wearing a red blindfold over her eyes.

Então, logo depois da fase de John Byrne no título, a Mulher-Maravilha passou um período longo de tapa-buracos e pequenas fases até Phil Jimenez assumir o título em 2001.

A fase dele durou cerca de três anos, e o visual dela não tinha muita diferença do padrão da personagem, a não ser pelo período em que ela parou de usar a tiara, em consequencia da abolição da monarquia em Themyscira (a tiara era como uma coroa real). Logo após a fase de Jimenez, Walt Simonson assumiu o título como escritor por um arco de seis histórias, com arte de Jerry Ordway, e a principal diferença na aparência da personagem era o cabelo curto.

E esse foi o "Wonder Sketchbook" de hoje.

So, after John Byrne's run on her book, Wonder Woman spent a long period of short runs and fill-in issues until Phil Jimenez got on the book in 2001.

His run lasted for about three years, and visually there wasn't much difference from the standard Wonder Woman look, except from the period where she didn't wear her tiara, due to the abolishment of the monarchy in Themyscira (her tiara being akin to a royal crown). Right after Jimenez' run, Walt Simonson took over the book as a writer for a short 6-issues run, with Jerry Ordway on the art, and the main difference on her looks was the short hair.

And that's today "Wonder Sketchbook".
